JOB SUMMARY
_
Assembles on the Vent-U-Matic machine needles, holders, shields, and straws to manufacture venting units and urine culture transfer devices. Operates Vent-U-Matic and bulk packaging equipment to achieve budgeted throughput rates while minimizing waste.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
_
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to
1. Responsible to assure proper safety procedures are followed.
2. Turns air on and starts machine; removes all defective assemblies before racks are placed in drying oven.
3. Maintains an adequate parts level in all feed systems and clears any jam ups that occur.
4. Ventumatic
1. Checks adhesive applicator nozzle for proper location on cannula.
2. Checks adhesive control to ensure correct amount of epoxy is being placed on cannula.
3. Checks correct depth of cannula in holder to meet Quality Control requirements.
4. Loads needle hopper with cannula, sharp end toward the holder.
5. Maintains adequate silicone reservoir level and change silicone application pads as required
6. Keeps clothing and hands free of adhesive, washes with soap and water immediately if adhesive contacts skin.
5. Bulk packaging
1. Places rolls of film on machine correctly so that when machine is started, film will seal properly.
2. Sets up case/shipping labeler according to production envelope.
3. Stamps Cases with sequential numbers.
4. Monitors all component and packaging feeders and fills as required.
5. Erects, tapes, labels and stamps hand packed shipping cases.
6. Keeps work area as clean as possible at all times.
7. Maintains separation of batches and follows all GMP and Quality Assurance procedures. Fills out Quality Assurance and inspection sheets as required by current Operational Specifications.
8. Reports production and/or waste according to current Accounting methods.
9. Assures that needed raw materials have been requisitioned by the warehouse personnel in time to maintain productivity goals. Assures finished product is properly removed from manufacturing area.
10. Performs duties of a Production Assembly Operator during times of equipment down time due to scheduling, etc.

MAINTENANCE
_
1. Performs preventative maintenance as required per schedule
2. Assists in equipment maintenance and rebuilds that are completed during the Plant shut down periods.
3. Performs changeovers or sets up equipment for the product catalog number scheduled to run.
4. Makes adjustments until such time that all machines are operating at rated capacity and required quality levels.
5. Requisitions needed parts from Parts Crib to complete set ups or adjustments of equipment.
6. Initiates work orders to be submitted to appropriate personnel as related to safety improvements needed.
7. Assists Team Leadership and Technicians in order to repair machines during downtime
8. Not authorized to complete electrical repair work unless documented formal education is provided.
9. Maintains a clean work area and reports all safety hazards to appropriate personnel and maintains all equipment and work areas within established safety standards. Responsible for maintaining tools. Initial tools and lockouts will be provided. If lost, the employee pays for replacements.
10. Follows Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and other systems/procedures as appropriate.
11. Identifies problems related to equipment performance including such items as defective solenoids, cylinders, etc. Responsible for efficiently replacing these defective components and making them operational.

2. Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

1. _Education
_
High school diploma or GED. Technical Degree preferred.
2. _Experience
_
Minimum one year proven mechanical ability.
3. _Physical Requirements
_
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
4. _Mental Requirements
_
Ability to read, write and understand English.

1. Equipment Use
_
Ability to utilize various hand tools used in repair and maintenance work. Ability to troubleshot equipment problems and determine resolutions.
Vent-U-Matic automatic cannulator assembly machine, UV oven, straw machine. Transfer and component feeding mechanisms.
Pallet mover. Personal Computer with windows software/SAP. Hand stamper.
6. _Working Conditions
_
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
7. _Supervision
_
Reports directly to the Department Shift Facilitator. Has no supervision over others.
